Samsung Omnia users having the phone of certain model numbers and especially Verizon users have reported facing problems with sound quality of the user voice ie the other party may finds the voice too low.

This is quite a issue for users of popular call recorder apps like Resco call recorder and Vitonotes call recorder, here is a work around for you:

The core issue at hand here is that by default Verizon (and others) have kept the mic level very low. There is an internal system app called soundtester which can modify this. You can try the following to access soundtester:

* Find sound-tester from the windows directory

* If that does not work (sometimes it could have been hidden), turn off mouse, then go to today screen, press and hold the center button, meanwhile tap and hold the battery. This will bring up the runbox and there you can type ’soundtester’
In the soundtester interface, there is a simple option for increasing microphone level.

Get ready to click high resolution super quality cool photos with your mobile phone as the 8 MP cameras in cellphones come close to reality.

Earlier week, Samsung announced in Korea that it has developed a 8 MP cameraphone module. Samsung has demonstrated high end camera integrated phones many times during the last two years in various conferences and trade fairs. But this announcement clearly indicates that the company is ready to go ahead with mass production of the phone soon.

Production of phones with this module is expected to start in 2008 and to be available to the public in high-end phones like SPH-V8200 by end of 2008.

The module has the same footprint as Samsung’s 3.2-megapixel module at 10.5 x 11.5 x 9.4mm. It measures 3264 x 2444 pixels, has autofocus capabilities and will be able to produce 300dpi picture output for prints as large as 10 x 8-inches.

I. Introduction

First of all, I’ll start with a warning:
FLASHING THE D500 WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY AND IS COMPLETELY AT OWN RISK!
Beneath are the things you need to flash the Samsung D500:

#A Samsung D500 Flash cable (not the Data cable! We can look for it here.)

# 9 Volt Battery for the Flash cable

# The Corona-Downloader

II. Backup Guide

First thing you need to do is make a backup of your own firmware, so that in case the flashing of the new firmware fails, you can still flash your old firmware back. Now let’s get started.

Connect the flash cable at a COM-Port on the back of your computer.
(Check your settings of the COM-Port at the Hardware Settings, the Baud-setting must be at 115200)

Conect a 9 Volt Battery on the Flash Cable.

Remove your Sim-Card from the phone and put the battery back.
Please note: The battery must be completely loaded before the flashing process!

Start the Corona-Downloader, choose the COM-Port (1) where you have mounted the flash cable on and select 115200 at Serial-Port (2).

Click on START (3) in Corona-Downloader. “POWER ON the PHONE” should come up in the window. Now push the Power-Button on your Phone, and start up your phone like you normally do it. Now something should be happening in the window of Corona-Downloader as it’s searching the settings of the phone. This takes about 30 seconds.

Push Explorer at NAND Flash Operation (4). A new Window comes up. Here, you choose NAND Full Dump. Another window comes up. Choose a place on your hard disk where you would like the Backup to be saved, and then choose a name for the file. Click save and the backup should now begin. It takes up to 2,5 Hours and the Backup-File will be around 130 MB.

III. Flashing Guide

For the flashing process it’s almost the same as the backup guide so this’ll be easy

Connect the flash cable at a COM-Port on the back of your computer.
(Check your settings of the COM-Port at the Hardware Settings, the Baud-setting must be at 115200)

Connect a 9 Volt Battery on the Flash Cable.

Select BIN+TFS (4) at Corona-Downloader. Now search for the BIN (5) and TFS (6) on your hard disk. Once you’re ready to start flashing, click on Download (7). The Flashing now begins. Flashing the BIN takes normally 35 Min. and the TFS takes 53 Min., that means 1,5 Hours in total. Once finished, a “Download Complete” message appears on your screen .

After you have flashed the phone you can remove the flash cable. Then insert the SIM-Card and start your phone for testing.
Once you started your phone, you can use the code *#1234# to check if the new firmware is correctly installed.

Photos, Ringtones, pictures, videos and mp3″s remain on the phone and the IMEI also remains the same.

Here is an example of a Flash-Log.
Good Luck.

Type this in on the standby screen to unlock your D500:

#*7337#

It worked on Orange handset, but it removed all WAP settings & bookmarks. For some reason everything else, including MMS settings, contacts and images remained. You need to re-enter the Orange settings here they are:

Profile Settings:
Profile Name: Orange GPRS WAP
Home URL: http://wap.orange.co.uk
Bearer: GPRS Only
Proxy: Enable
__
GPRS Settings:
IP Address: 192.168.71.35
Port: 8080
APN: orangewap
Login ID: Empty
Password: Empty

Just a few things I noticed:

People complaining about T9 turning on and off – Someone suggested pressing the * key to make T9 stay on… its a software bug, no combination of key presses will fix it. It appeas that there is one software revision without the problem; lets hope there is a flash solution for the phone soon…

Orange Customisation – It’s not that bad, the only function lost is the ability to add shortcuts to the navi-key from the standby screen. You still retain access to messaging, schedule, wap, contacts and call data from the main screen; more than is possible on a sim free D500. If you don’t like it (i’d personally rather have non-branded software) wait for a flash solution.

Installing Java games – You need to download them via wap using both the Jad and jar files. Sending via IrDa or bluetooth won’t work

Syncing with iSync in mac OSx – Its not a supported handset, so it won’t work regardless of what people on here say/think. iCal doesn’t use vCal files either so you can’t export from there to the phone as someone said. Either use Entourage, Outlook Classic a 3rd party plug-in for iCal or wait for the next iSync revision.

Sending images via BT/iRda – For some reason images resized in Photoshop CS don’t show up on my D500. I’d imagine that if anyone is having similar problems its to do with the JPEG recompression when you save the new image. Try using another app.

Poor images from the camera – Make sure you are using super fine mode (SF) have the resolution set to one of the top two settings, and press key number “6″ for noise reduction. The pictures i’ve taken with the settings above put my S700i to shame.

While not as thin as the SGH-D800, the SGH-D820 is also slender at just 15.2mm depth. The USP of this phone, however, lies in its wide array of multimedia functions.

The D820 comes with 73MB of internal memory, but the best part is the MicroSD slot. This is definitely good news for those looking for a D800 alternative.

The SGH-D820 also features a 2.12″ 240×320 TFT LCD capable of 262k colors. The audio player supports MP3, AAC and AAC+ (just to take a bit of your fun away, WMA support has been stripped off). But it does come with dual stereo speakers and voice recognition, pushing its weight to 103 grams. Another interesteing feature is the TV-out with this phone.
