LG U8110/U8120 File Transfer & Synchronisation Setup,Connecting to PC

>First try Step 1

>If it doesn’t work!Try Step 3

>If you still get the “Failed to connect…” error, (after Step3)

>After trying Step 1 ,Step 3,Step 4;try Step 2

Step 1 :

  • 1. Simple launch Phone Manager (in any order, either before or after LG Desktop)
  • 2. Select the “Contents” Icon (its the big Icon on the Left.)
  • 3. Select the “Transfer” Menu at the top
  • 4. Choose “Set COM Port”
  • 5. Select your connection type “IrDA / USB”
  • 6. The comport number should appear with a *.
  • 7. You can now click on the Connect Icon

Step 2 : ( after trying Step1,Step3,Step4)

  • 1. uninstall LG and any other mobile programs you have on your pc
  • 2. uninstall the LG drivers
  • 3. Reboot your PC (make sure the phone is not plugged in)
  • 4. Install the latest LG programs from LG.com

  • 5. Reboot your PC
  • 6. Connect phone through USB
  • 7. Install all the drivers from the original disk (LG) there should be 4 drivers
  • 8. Reboot your PC
  • 9. Open phone manager (contents folder)
  • 10. then in the following order transfer tab, set com ports….. use one arround 20 ish
  • 11. Open LG desktop and do the same (set ports to what ever u used ie 20 )
  • 12. Open sync manager from the task bar (right click) configure, sinc settings all to Outlook, communication settings to USB and ALWAYS
  • 13. Reboot for the last time

there now it should work ….. Remember make sure you phone is left on the Bootscreen (ie the one that comes up when you turn it on)

Step 3 :LG U8110/U8120 File Transfer & Synchronisation SetupBefore you begin
Make sure you have:
• A charged LG U81XX handset
• Turn the handset off and then on
• USB cable supplied with the handset
• LG U81XX CD supplied with the handset
• An active 3G USIM card inserted into the handset
• A PC with MS Windows 2000 or Windows XP, and MS Outlook installed. (Will not work on Windows 95/98/ME or Mac OS)
• The handset disconnected from the PC

If you haven’t installed the software from the CD on your PC, follow the instructions below carefully.

I. Install the USB drivers
• 1) Close down all the applications on the PC.
• 2) Insert the LG U81XX CD into the CD ROM drive. DO NOT run the automatic installation process and close down any windows that appear. (After you insert the CD, you will see a screen to install PC Sync and Phone Manager – Do not click on any of the two)
• 3) Click Exit
• 4) Connect the handset to the USB cable and then to the PC.
• 5) Windows will automatically detect the handset as a new hardware.
• 6) Five (5) USB drivers need to be installed onto the PC. After each one is installed, the Found New Hardware Wizard will run to install the next one. The five drivers that will be required are:
* LGE U81XX
* LGE U81XX USB WMC Modem
* LGE U81XX USB WMC Data Modem
* LGE U81XX USB WMC OBEX Interface
* LGE U81XX USB WMC Device Management
• 7) The Installation of each individual USB driver follows similar procedures as shown below:
i. When Found New Hardware Wizard starts click Next >
ii. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), then click Next >
iii. Select CD-ROM drives, then click Next >
iv. Select Next > to install the selected driver.
v. If you see the Digital Signature Not Found screen asking ‘Do you want to continue the installation?’ Click Yes
vi. A message confirming the installation complete is displayed. Click Finish

This needs to be repeated for all USB drivers.

II. Install, Configure & Using PC Sync
(This synchronises your Contacts, Calender, To Do, & Memo from the handset to MS Outlook and vice versa)
• 1. Close down all the applications on the PC.
• 2. Once all the USB drivers have been successfully installed, insert the LG U81XX CD into the CD ROM drive.
• 3. From the splash screen that appears, click on Install PC Sync
• 4. Choose the language and click OK
• 5. Click Next >
• 6. Click Next >
• 7. Click Next >
• 8. Click Next >
• 9. Click Finish
• 10. Double click on LG Desktop 3.0 icon on your desktop.
• 11. Type in a user name Eg. john smith. Leave the Password and Repeat fields blank.
a. Tick the Do not use password field.
b. Click on OK
• 12. Right click on the Sync Manager icon the system tray (usually lower right hand bottom of the screen) and select Configure
• 13. Select Contacts and click on Change…
• 14. Under PIM, select MS Outlook
• 15. Under Synchronisation Method, choose your preferred method of synchronisation (Synchronise recommended)
• 16. Repeat these steps for Calendar, To do and Memo
• 17. Click on the Communications Settings tab and ensure that
• 18. Communication Method is set to USB / Serial
• 19. Click OK
• 20. In the LG Desktop window, select Synchronise (Ctrl Y) in the menu tool bar at the top of the screen
• 21. The handset should show Phone agent – Connected /Synchronising

Your handset will now synchronise with MS Outlook on your PC.

III. Install, Configure & Using Phone Manager
(To transfer Video, Audio, and Image files)
• 1. Close down all the applications on the PC.
• 2. Once all the USB drivers have been successfully installed, insert the LG U81XX CD into the CD ROM drive.
• 3. From the splash screen that appears, click on Install Phone Manager
• 4. Click Next >
• 5. Click Next >
• 6. Click Next >
• 7. Click Finish
• 8. Click Exit
• 9. On your PC, double click on the Phone Manager icon on your desktop.
• 10. In the Phone Manager window, click on the Contents icon.
• 11. Under Communication Method, ensure that USB is selected and press OK
• 12. Make sure your handset is not in the Video player, Audio player or Image viewer menu (within Multimedia).
• 13. Click on the Connect icon in the top left part of the window.
• 14. Your handset should show Phone agent – Connected
• 15. In the Folder pane, click the plus (+) symbol next to LG Phone
• 16. Select from the folders within Phone Manager window that you wish to transfer between your handset and the PC.

To transfer files, drag the files you wish to transfer between your PC and handset in the Folder pane within the Phone Manager window.

If you have installed the software and receive an error while trying to connect from Phone Manager which states: “Failed to connect to mobile phone. Select COM Port and connect in Idle screen”,

• uninstall the LG software from Control Panel>Add Remove Programs.
• Uninstall the LG drivers: Right click on My Computer>go to Properties>Hardware>Device Manager
- Under Ports (COM & LPT), and Universal Serial Bus controllers, uninstall all LG U81XX drivers with a yellow exclamation mark or red question mark.
• Disconnect you handset from your PC, restart your PC, and reinstall as mentioned above. Follow the instructions carefully.

Make sure that before you install the drivers, you select CD-ROM as the location to search the files, as the drivers required are the ones provided in your CD (Check under the USB drivers folder). This is important, because if you let Windows install default drivers (found under C:/WINNT or C:/Windows), you will get the error message. Incorrect drivers would show up with an exclamation or question mark under Device Manager.

If you still get the “Failed to connect…” error, (after Step3)Step 4 :• Open LG Phone Manager.
• On the left column, click on CONTENTS.
• From the menu bar on top cick on TRANSFER > SET COM PORT. Select the COM PORT with the asterix alongside it.
• Ensure the Connect via USB is selected.
• Click OK
• Now, click on the CONNECT icon (Top left of your screen, under “File”)
• Your handset display screen should show that it is connected to the PC.

To transfer Video, Music, or Image files :
• Select CONTENTS from the Main screen
• On the list of folders on the center column, you would find an icon named “LG Phone”
• Click on the + button and there should be folders for Video, Music & Images
• Example: To transfer an mp3 from the PC to your handset, select your file > right click > select copy and then paste it into Audio folder under LG phone.

NOTE: Do not operate the handset while connecting to the PC or while transferring files. Click on the “hangup” button to bring it to the main screen… which is the IDLE screen.
